The number of inmates on death rows across the nation is 2,905, a decrease from 2,943 reported on January 1, 2016.

Jurisdictions (having 10 or more inmates) with the highest percent of minorities on death row

- Louisiana (65%)
- Delaware (61%)
- Arkansas (56%)
- North Carolina (56%)
- Mississippi (54%)
- Ohio (54%)
- Pennsylvania (54%)
- Alabama (53%)
- South Carolina (53%)
- North Carolina (52%)

Jurisdictions with the most inmates on death row:

- California (741)
- Florida (396)
- Texas (254)
- Alabama (194)
- Pennsylvania (175)
- North Carolina (155)
- Ohio (142)
- Arizona (126)
