Instructions and Usage Notes

• This list includes all executions since 1976. For an historical database of executions, visit our Espy Database page, which is available for browsing in PDF format.

• The search by Name function works with partial names, last or first names, or whole names.

• By highlighting a number of selections, you can search for a range of dates, races, or factors for all executions.

• Federal Executions have their own category and will not show in the results for state executions.

• When searching by Race, some entries will include multiple victims and multiple races. If you are looking for the instances of a white defendant executed for the death of only black victims, please select that option under "Special Factors."

• Geographical regions are listed as determined by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Federal Executions are included in the region in which the crime occurred.
